"Leadership can only function on the basis of trust!" - John Maxwell

People will not follow a leader they cannot or do not trust. Understanding that leadership can only function on the basis of trust gives you an edge over the competition. Being a leader whom your team can trust will allow you to be positioned for reaching your full potential.

Keep in mind, trust is the most important element in building and
maintaining relationships in your network marketing business. Without trust, you will never be the leader people will want to follow. Without trust, you will experience the greatest challenge in your business... survival.

Developing trust as a leader is not easy. However, once people trust you as a person, they will begin to trust your leadership. So how does one develop trust?

Without a shadow of doubt, always be upfront and straightforward with people. Do not market on hyped up campaigns or give the illusion of great results with little or no effort. Begin with the nuts 'n bolts... what it really takes. People will appreciate you and will begin to gain trust in you as a person.

Take time to listen to those on your team. Spend time with your team to find out what they need to help them build their business. Give feedback on performance and show you care.

Respect the potential leader on your team and that person will return your respect with trust. Show acceptance of the person and be sensitive to their feelings and needs.

TIP - You've heard the saying, "reach out and touch"... it is critical to reach out to your potential leaders and give encouragement. Encouragement can be as simple as a handshake, a high five, or a pat on the back.

Encourage through appreciation.

NOTE: Success requires a sustainable motivation. A sustainable motivation is like the Energizer battery... "it keeps you going, and going, and going!" Having a sustainable motivation will allow you to overcome the ups and downs of building your own business without getting derailed from moving toward your main objective. Begin developing your sustainable motivation today by reading at least ten minutes a day. Read something uplifting and positive!
Developing a sustainable motivation builds character and ultimately trust.

A Millionaire's Secret

by Allen Says

Washington DC was nasty as could be. As I sat on the bench
waiting for my bus to arrive I couldn't wait to get back to the
backwoods of Louisiana. I had almost sat in a pool of blood that
was on the far end of the bench and I was ready to go. I truly
hope people coming to visit our country don't make DC one of
their stops.

Anyway, before my bus arrived I was approached by a nicely
dressed elderly gentleman in need of directions. I told him I
had no idea what he was looking for as I too was just passing
through. To this day I'm not sure why, but we started talking as
if we had known each other for years.

We talked about life, people and eventually the conversation
turned to business. It was here that the gentlemen saw something
in me, I suppose, that made him feel like sharing what he said
was the greatest secret ever told. He said everyone had heard it
but almost no one paid any attention to it, even though it was
the one thing that could bestow a fortune upon any man or woman
who used it.

My ears where definitely starting to perk up. Something about
his tone told me this man knew from whereof he spoke. And I
wanted to know what the secret was with a passion. He must have
sensed my anxiousness because at that very moment he gave me a
warning that was almost a scolding.

I'll try to recount here as best I can the rest of our
conversation...

Man: "Do not make the mistake of shrugging off what I am about
to tell you because you have heard it before. No doubt you have
heard it already from at least one person in your life. You may
have even heard it many times. Do you have any aversion to
religion Mr. Says?"

Me: "No I don't. I don't believe many preachers know what they
are talking about or even what they are trying to teach, but I
do know the Bible has a lot of great knowledge in it."

Man: "Good. I would not want you to discount what I am about to
tell you because it does come directly from the Bible. But its
applications reach far beyond what most people can conceive of.
It will take thought, intense pondering on your part, to begin
to get some inkling of its power."

"This simple secret, when applied to business, will draw money
to you as easily as water runs down a mountain. Even a fool can
apply it and prosper. When applied to relationships, it will
create more friends than you can handle" (laughing heartily)

Me: "What is it, I'm dying to know now?"

Man: "Patience Mr. Says, Patience. I will not give it to you as
it has always been repeated by fools who have no respect or
knowledge of what it even means. No. I will give it to you
another way."

"What type of business are you interested in?"

Me: "Well, I'm dabbling in Mail Order right now. I would like to
place ads and sell books."

Man: "Fine. Fine. Mail Order it is. Let me tell you how to
create a fortune in this Mail Order. All you have to do is
create the product you want to buy"

Me: "I don't understand"

Man: "You will"

"You see, you are your market. Whatever you want, there are
millions of other people wanting the same thing. That elusive
product you are looking for is the product millions of others
are also looking for right now."

"All you have to do is create the product you want to buy, the
product you yourself have been looking for. Once you have this
product, what would you want the sales message to say so that
you know this is the product you have been looking for?"

"If someone else where selling this product, what would you want
the ad to say, what would get you to buy this product?. When you
have that answer, that is the ad you want to create."

Me: "I see" (hesitantly)

Man: "See the business across the street here? Pizza. I could
triple the business that place does inside of 10 minutes. That's
what I do by the way" (smiling)

"All I would do is walk into the business as a customer. I would
sit there and imagine all the things that could be done to me
that would make me a loyal customer to that business for life.
What could they do for me that would make me feel this way?"

"Once I had the answers to that question, I would implement them
across the board. Every customer would be treated the way I had
imagined. And without any doubt what so ever that business would
triple the profits it now makes."

Me: "I think I know..."

Man: "Wait, you don't really know anything yet. That's the
problem with people. They brush something off because of where
it came from or because they heard it many times. Leave that for
fools. You won't "know it" until you have deeply pondered it and
put it to use."

Me: "Ok"

Man: "What I am telling you has power undreamed of. The simple
words used to describe it cannot contain it. Does not do justice
to it, and has been prostituted by blabber mouths who let wisdom
fall off their lips with not even a single brain cell grasping
what they are rambling about."

"What I am telling you is Law, not man's Law, but the very Law's
of nature herself. It's the way things work and those who truly
understand it rise to the top in every field known to man."

"What people don't understand is that it applies to everything.
This secret can be applied with virtually every step you take,
everything you do, every word you speak and everyone concerned
profits by it."

"If you are a writer, write like you would like to be written to"

"If you are a salesman, sell like you would like to be sold to"

"If you are a speaker, speak like you would like to be spoken to"

"If you want more love, then love like you would like to be
loved"

"If you want more friends, be the friend you would like to see"

"When you infuse everything you do with this secret it takes on
a magical power. Businesses dominate the market, books become
best sellers, leaders attract huge and loyal followings."

"How would you like it?"
"How would you respond to it?"
"How would it make you feel?"

"Those are great questions to think about every time you do or
create something. You will get into the hearts and minds of
everyone who comes under your influence if you will first think
how you would have it done to you."

"I'm certain you already know the quote from the Bible I'm
referring to. But don't repeat it, just ponder it and pratice
it."

Me: "I do. But I've never thought of how it could actually apply
to everything in life. I too was one of those fools who passed
it over without so much as a second thought. I really want to
thank you for sharing this with me."

Man: "It's been a real pleasure talking with you Mr. Says, have
a safe journey home."

-----------

And with that, he was gone. The funny thing was, as I was
riding home on the bus I realized I never got his name, nor do I
remember ever giving him mine. Maybe he saw my luggage tag. I'm
not sure. It really doesn't matter. What does matter is that
I've profited from that advice for the last 15 years.

I'm not even really any good at it either and I've still pulled
in huge amounts of money. Especially from the Internet. This is
one place this knowledge can really shine. People have always
asked me my secret. How come the Warriors is still here, with
the same products, with all this competition, after all these
years?

This one simple secret is the answer. I always ask myself how
would I like to be treated by this company? What would I like to
see? What would I like to get? How would I like to be dealt with?

Those simple questions are all you have to answer. When you do
get the answers, put them into action and watch what happens.

10 Awesome Ways To Attract More Orders

1. Create a free ebook directory on a specific topic
at your web site. People will visit your web site to
read the free ebooks and may see your product ad.

2. Turn part of your web site into a members only
web site. Instead of charging for access, use it as
a free bonus for one of your products.

3. Add a free classified ad section to your web site.
You could then trade banner ads with other web
sites that have free classified ad sections.

4. Create two versions of your e-zine so people
can choose if they want ads included with it or not.
This'll attract the people who hate ads to subscribe.

5. Publish your e-zine only on your web site. Have
people subscribe to a "new issue" e-mail reminder.
This could really increase your traffic and sales.

6. Sell advertising space in your product package.
You could sell inserts, flyers, brochures, booklets,
and digital ads for electronic products.

7. Offer daily or weekly visitor bonuses. This will
increase your repeat traffic and sales because your
visitors will visit regularly to get the visitor bonuses.

8. Allow people to download software or e-books
from your web site at no cost. Just ask your visitors
in return if they'll refer their friends to your web site.

9. Build up the number of people that join your free
affiliate program quickly by temporally offering your
product for free to the people that sign up.

10. Negotiate with e-zine publishers to get free or
discounted ads by letting them join your affiliate
program and earn commissions on the ad you run.

provided by Leaders Club

"Poor human relations can ruin the best marketing effort you could ever put together!" - Jim Cathcart

As you prospect and recruit, your attitude can help you become a success. Unfortunately, your attitude can also get in the way of your success. Your attitude is equally important to your success as your marketing effort. Without marketing, you won't have the people to talk with and recruit.

Success in recruiting goes beyond just a good marketing message. You will do more recruiting as a result of having a good attitude. Those you prospect and recruit will do business with you because of you as an individual. They will do business with you when you show you care about them and show you can help meet their needs. Network marketing is about relationships, it is about helping people. Our recruiting should then also reflect doing something for people. We should do things with people and for people, not to them.

Those you prospect and eventually recruit are constantly thinking, "what's in it for me?" If you are focused on yourself rather than the prospect, you will find yourself in a position of being manipulative and pushing people. The key is to develop an attitude that you truly are there to help people.

Before you can begin to improve your attitude, you must first take a solid look at how you perceive yourself. Regardless of what others try to tell you, recruiting in network marketing is sales. I know, you hate sales and you don't want to be in sales. This is true for most of us because of our attitude toward sales and what we perceive sales people to be.

Let's play a short game. This is a word association game. Take out a pen and paper. Now, over the next 30 seconds, don't dwell on this game, just make notes of as many of those images that pop into your mind when you hear the word 'salesman!'

What did you come up with? I bet you had images of a used car salesman, pushy and fast talking people, aggressive and slick door to door sales people, the dreadful telemarketer who reads a canned script and doesn't take no for an answer... right? Well that is not the reality of true effective selling. When you meet effective salespeople, the majority of the time you will find these people very professional, respectable, and success surrounds them.

However, the stereotypical salesperson still exists. They exist because of the old type of sales training. The same is true in recruiting in network marketing. Start today by building on a personal attitude that you are in relationship selling and not traditional stereotypical selling. You are a professional and are there to help your prospect make an informed decision.

TIP --> Drop all the traditional canned approaches and scripts. Focus on your prospect and develop a strong attitude that you are a professional in the sales process. You will recruit more when your attitude is stronger. Most importantly, develop an attitude of concern for your prospect by developing your listening skills. The more you listen, the more you appear to be a person who cares about your prospect.

5 Ways to Make Your Website Pay

Copyright © Stone Evans, The Home Biz Guy
http://www.top-work-from-home.com

For would-be online entrepreneurs, there are many
aspects to consider. Here are five ways to make
sure your online business fits the bill.

1. Get recognized.

Many sites have failed due to being buried at the
bottom of a Yahoo list. Do your homework on how
to get users into your online space. Linking to
online auction sites is sometimes necessary, or
teaming up with more established merchants.
Either way, no one will buy if they don't show up.

2. Keep an eye on design.

A 'clunky' page turns users off. It's not that
your site needs to be 'slick'; it just needs a
sense of balance and a kind of aesthetic 'grace'.
If you do your best HTML churning or Dreamweaver
navigation and the pages still look thrown
together, you could enlist the help of a savvy
graphic designer. It's what they do.

3. Maintain your copy.

This may seem like a small detail, but spelling
and grammatical errors can drive business away.
A site with well-pruned text shows the merchant's
credibility, and a sloppy sentence can make your
business look, well, sloppy. Or worse. Don't
overlook the importance of 'clean copy'.

4. Get Paid.

Whether you are including credit card payment
portals on your site or using PayPal or another
online service to receive customer payments, your
site needs to be set up for easy access. Payment
should be a painless process on the client side.
Otherwise, your customers might be tempted to
give up on you.

5. Go after Feedback.

Suggestions from outside can boost your internet
sales, so if you're interested in finding out
what your clientele thinks, you can include a
'guestbook' or online suggestion box on your
site. As an alternative, you can ask certain
individuals to access the site and provide
feedback.

Attention to these methods will improve your
chances of being successful in the wide world of
online advertising.

10 Killer Ways To Multiply Your Sales

1. When you make your first sale, follow-up with the
customer. You could follow-up with a "thank you"
email and include an advertisement for other products
you sell. You could follow-up every few months.

2. You could upsell to your customers. When they're
at your order page, tell them about a few extra related
products you have for sale. They could just add it to
their original order.

3. Tell your customers if they refer four customers to
your web site, they will receive a full rebate of their
purchase price. This will turn one sale into three sales.

4. When you sell a product, give your customers the
option of joining an affiliate program so they can make
commissions selling your product. This will multiply
the sale you just made.

5. Sell the reprint/reproduction rights to your products.
You could include an ad on or with the product for
other products you sell. You could make sales for the
reproduction rights and sales on the back end product.

6. You could cross promote your product with other
businesses' products in a package deal. You can
include an ad or flyer for other products you sell and
have other businesses selling for you.

7. When you ship out or deliver your product, include
a coupon for other related products you sell in the
package. This will attract them to buy more products
from you.

8. Send your customers a catalog of add-on products
for the original product they purchased. This could be
upgrades, special services, attachments, etc. If they
enjoy your product they will buy the extra add-ons.

9. Sell gift certificates for your products. You'll make
sales from the purchase of the gift certificate, when
the recipient cashes it in. They could also buy other
items from your web site.

10. Send your customers free products with their
product package. The freebies should have your ad
printed on them. It could be bumper stickers, ball
caps, t-shirts etc. This will allow other people to see
your ad and order.

Understanding the Difference Between Marketing and Promotion

Copyright Stone Evans, The Home Biz Guy
http://www.top-home-based-business.com/pips.html

Are you an online marketer? Or do you simply promote affiliate
programs? Marketing is truly the most misunderstood word in use
today on the Internet. Let me see if I can clarify this issue
just a bit.

In Marketing 101 at your local university, marketing is actually
the process of Product, Place, Price and Promotion.

PRODUCT

No business can exist without a product or service to sell.

In a nutshell, entrepreneurs are the people who believe in a
product, service or idea, so much that they are willing to
invest their lives into the development of their dream.

Historically, every major corporation in the world was started
by an entrepreneur with a dream and the drive to make it a
reality.

However, there comes a time in the life of every corporation
when those who fear the gambling nature of their founder, squash
the entrepreneurial drive that made the company a viable concern
in the first place. The entrepreneur will either submit to the
careful nature of the stockholders, or he will be forced to
leave the company he created.

The only entrepreneurs who withstand the pressure to move more
carefully are those who have maintained majority control over
their companies.

PLACE

In the offline world, place is defined by location. On the
Internet, place is defined by domain name and the web hosting
service chosen.

Both online and offline, place can make or break a company
without respect to the quality and value of the product, service
or idea.

PRICE

Selecting a price is determined first on a basis of whether the
company wants to be seen as a discount or a value company.

Take for example Wal-Mart and Staples.

Wal-Mart is the lead discounter in the marketplace. Staples on
the other hand is the specialist in office supplies.

Both sell a significant number of office supplies despite the
fact that the lowest price can usually be found at Wal-Mart. As
a value dealer, Staples can afford to charge more for their
products than Wal-Mart.

So the question for you is whether you want to position your
company as a discount or value company.

Testing has shown that products and services can be sold at any
number of prices and still reach a significant number of people.

The challenge of selecting the best price for your product or
service will require a certain amount of testing.

UNDERSTANDING THE PRICING EQUATION

Let's assume we are selling a product. Let us also assume that
we know that the product can be sold for $10 or $50. Let us also
assume that if the price dips below $10 or rises above $50, then
the product sales fall off significantly.

Our challenge is to determine the b.est r.ate at which to sell our
product.

Testing has shown us that we can sell 1000 items a week at $10.
Testing has also shown that we can sell 500 items per week at
$50. And testing has shown that we can sell 650 items per week
at $45.

At $10, our projected weekly earnings are $10,000. When we sell
the product at $50, we know that we can e.arn $25,000 per week.
Most importantly, we know that we can e.arn $29,250 when our
product is priced at $45.

With the imaginary testing we have done on our imaginary
product, we can easily see that selling our product at $45 per
item will earn us more money over the long haul.

Thus, when we make the decision for a national rollout of our
product, then we will price our product at $45.

Of course, this is a very simplistic analysis of the point I am
trying to make. Though simple, I believe this analogy will help
you understand the methods of developing a product's prices.

PROMOTION

Promotion, on the other hand, is the process of notifying the
consumers for your product or service of your availability to
serve them.

Methods of promotion vary distinctly and should be arranged to
meet very specific goals.

As with product, place and price, promotion should not be left
to chance. You should test every ad, every media, and every
price point to determine the best bang for your promotional
dollars.

HEADS UP!

If you are an online promoter or marketer, please factor in the
most important element concerning the cost of your promotions.

What element is that? Your time!

Value your time at a certain dollar amount, and figure in your
time into the cost of your promotional accounting.

I say this because too many online promoters lose sight of this
concept and spend 20 hours to generate one sale while using free
advertising. Even if you rate your time at the federal minimum
wage, then you will have invested $105 of your time for one sale
that might only net you a gross sale of $45!

ARE YOU TRULY A MARKETER OR ARE YOU JUST A PROMOTER?

Most people who run a business on the Internet call themselves
marketers. Yet, most of these same people are really just
promoters wrapped in the label of a marketer.

True marketers do not promote without a lot of advance work.
They spend time planning, testing and measuring their actions
and results to get the most out of every dollar spent and earned.

Entrepreneurs finesse the art of marketing as they build their
company into a major enterprise.

If you are a promoter who does not keep an eye on the total
marketing equation, then you are bound to fail.

If you do call yourself a marketer, then do what a professional
marketer does. Make sure that every dollar spent is spent well.
Make sure that every dollar earned is put to good use. Market
well so that when the people of the next generation look at your
life, they will see a fine example of a successful entrepreneur
that they will strive to emulate.

SELL LESS TO SELL MORE

Instead of getting tunnel-vision and only seeing the
short-term goal of the right-now sale, remember that your
email messages are an important way for you to build a
RELATIONSHIP with a consumer based on your HONESTY AND
SERVICE.

Although you want your prospect to buy, you shouldn`t
immediately and constantly bombard the folks on your email
list with nothing but sales pitches. You`re looking for a
long-term, committed relationship. Be a person first and a
salesperson second for the best results.

=> RELATIONSHIP COUNSELING

Your first few email sales letters may prove to be the most
effective if they`re written in a warm, helpful,
let`s-be-business-friends "voice."

=> GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT

In the off-line world, we`ve become accustomed to the fact
that we hear literally thousands of messages each day. An
online experience, on the other hand is still, for most
people, closer to visiting "the library" or perhaps watching
public television rather than tuning into the Home Shopping
Network.

Most people are on the Internet looking for information -
not waiting to be sold. People don`t want to be pitched to
every day with a "you`d better buy it now" message.

So don`t be a salesperson. Be Miss Information (okay, Ms.
Information definitely sounds better) or Mr. Answerman.
After you become a trusted resource, it`s easy to become a
trusted source.

=> TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE

Lasting relationships don`t happen overnight...they`re built
over time. Your sales letters should be crafted in a way
that slowly, but surely convinces your prospects that you`re
someone with whom they`d like to do business. After you`ve
laid a foundation -- made them happy with what you`ve given
them as a gift, demonstrated your knowledge, etc. -- you`ll
have plenty of time to build a case for buying from you.

=> THE E-LIST

Once your prospects have gotten to know you through your
entire series of pre-written (but valuable)
communications...after you`ve built trust in the relationship
and gradually exposed consumers to the benefits of your
product or service...you can "graduate" them into your "real
time" ezine list.

Obviously, you can`t include a time-dependent message in
your pre-written letter series. People are opting in to
your list 365 days a year and you can`t risk that they`ll
receive a "Season`s Greetings" message in the middle of
June.

BUT, when you`ve exhausted the appeal of your letter series,
the people on your email list can become your ezine list.
Then you can send a Valentine`s message in February, a
"Happy Birthday, America" message in July, etc.

=> TO KNOW YOU IS TO LOVE YOU

You can influence people when they know you, like you, and
trust you. Ongoing timely communications means you can
continue to build rapport with the people on your list, and
you can be sure that if they TRUST you, they`ll be open to
BUYING from you.

Okay, I`ll admit that this message wasn`t purely a study
break. It may be the most valuable lesson you`ve learned
yet!

Sincerely,

Chris Stirling

"The only thing standing between you and success is excuses!" - Gregory Lousig-Nont, PhD.

Success is a choice and we must choose to eliminate the excuses and take action today! So many times we we make excuses because we feel we must study to perfection or make sure all our "ducks are in a row." The result then becomes a habit of procrastination. Ultimately frustration and blame sets in and we quit before we ever begin.

Don't let excuses stand between you and success. Know that no matter who you are or where you come from, you can succeed. Success takes discipline and consistent action. No one can build your network marketing business for you.

One very important piece to the network marketing puzzle for me was to make a commitment to myself and for me to understand that failure and challenges are all a part of becoming a success. Every great leader has been through multiple challenges and has fallen down many times on the road to success in network marketing. I realized this and conditioned myself to have a sustainable motivation... which has been a powerful driving force. I still have challenges and failures but I don't make excuses, I take consistent action.

I want you to know you are no different than me. Eliminate your excuses by taking action every day. It will be very important to get weekly coaching with your upline to help you stay on track. Always work from a plan and realize you don't have to get it right, you just have to get it going.

TIP - You can't make money and excuses at the same time.

$1M a year in Google Adsense

I wanted to share this post from one of the top internet marketers out there Jason Calacanis. Recently in his blog he posted an article that should inspire you that what ever your finacial goals are you can achieve them with internet marketing. He is earing $1 Million Dollars without a product to sell!

If you dream it you can achieve it
Chris Stirling

Here is his post on The Jason Calacanis Weblog

$1M a year in Google Adsense (or why 2,739 is my favorite number)

If back in September when we started playing with Google Adsense someone told me it would turn into a $1M a year business I would have laughed. A million bucks without a sales person? Give me a break!

However, yesterday we broke our $2,100 record with a $2,335 day. That’s an impressive number I know, because if we can take that number to $2,739.72 we’re at—wait for it—$1M a year.

For some perspective, take a look at some averages:
January we did $580 a day on average.
March was a $737 a day average.
May was a $1,585.57 average.

Now, before you get too excited let me tell you we’ve got 103 bloggers on the payroll and nine staffers here at Weblogs, Inc. We’re a big, little company… so to speak. Plus I gotta pay for Peter Rojas’ gadget habit (let’s just say it ain’t pretty)!

However, if you follow those numbers we tripled the average in five months or so. Not sure we can triple every five months, but I think we can get this to a $3,000 to $5,000 per day average by the end of the year.

Another thing to keep in mind is that we can’t run Google Adsense in top positions on a lot of our blogs because they are sold out (Engadget, Autoblog, etc. are sold out up top). If we had those slots open we would be at much more per day right now.

The publishing world has totally changed, and as much as I like to think I’m up on things every day I figure out something new about this business. It’s crazy.

One more tip: the Google horizontal banners work well. You know, the ones where a user clicks and sees a group of ads and then you get paid if they make a *second* click (the first click to Google gets you nothing!). Even with this double-click issue it performs really well (I don’t think I can say how much better then a leaderboard without getting in trouble with the Google Adsense Terms of Service, but lets just say it’s significant). I think this is because the users who click on those ads are rabid—they want a ton of information and they probably visit more then one advertiser’s site.

Children in the Home Business Environment

by Stone Evans, The Home Biz Guy
http://www.top-home-based-business.com/pips.html

Operating a home business is seldom easy and interruptions come
in all shapes, sizes and forms.

Between the family, friends and neighbors who call or come by,
and the telemarketers who insist on ringing your number off the
hook, getting through the workday can be a real challenge.

When you introduce children into the home office environment,
your productivity and patience can be seriously tested.

For example, right now my three-year old daughter is pulling on
my shirt and begging me to read her a story. Clearly, Im in the
middle of something important here, but how can I say no to
those eyes? Ill be right back...

Ok, that wasnt so bad was it? Shes happy, Im happy (having
bonded with my daughter) and now Im back to continue my
conversation with you :-) Whats the lesson here? Flexibility
is a major key to balancing your home business priorities with
your familys needs.

I can tell you from first-hand experience that maintaining a
deep level of concentration on work in a home business for long
periods of time is next to impossible. Naptime does offer some
reprieve, but any break from the kids is usually short lived.

Even with older children, summertime introduces new challenges
with kids running in and out of the house all throughout the day.

I would like to share with you some of the tips I have
discovered to help manage your home office with children in your
midst. Since children of different ages pose different
challenges, I will present my tips in terms of age groups.

OLDER CHILDREN AND TEENS

We will look at older children first since they pose the least
challenge to our work productivity.

Children, who are old enough to understand the idea of schedules
and chores, are old enough to understand the needs of your home
business. Explain to your children that you do your w.ork at h.ome
so that you can be near them when they need you. But also be
sure they understand that you must do your work so that you will
have the money necessary to keep your house, feed the family and
to provide them with money for entertainment.

Once your children understand the necessity of your work, then
outline a work schedule and explain it to them. Do make sure
they understand that emergencies are definitely an acceptable
reason to interrupt your work. Then make sure they understand
that between hours x and y, you will be doing work --- and then
hold them to respecting your schedule.

INFANTS

Infants will never understand your needs for work. But
fortunately, babies do well under a schedule or routine. Instead
of expecting your child to work around your schedule, schedule
your work around the needs of your baby.

It is simple. Babies eat, sleep and poop. Sometimes they play.
Fortunately, babies sleep more than they do anything else.

Naptime offers the best advantage for getting your work done.
Get your baby into a routine of eat, sleep and play, and you
will experience unexpected levels of productivity.

TODDLERS

If you have a toddler running around the house while you are
operating your home business, then you may find that your hair
turning gray or disappearing altogether. But, gray hair is a
sign of character, right. ;-)

I am venturing to guess that the person who devised the door
lock for the inside of the house did so because he had toddlers
in his own home. Inside door locks should only be utilized when
you are making that important phone call and your toddler is
screaming for your attention. At all other times, your door
should remain unlocked with your door open.

Develop a routine with your children for meal times, naptimes,
and play times. Work these times into your work schedule and
adhere to them. If you fail to keep appointments with your
children, your children will have less respect for your work and
do more to prevent you from the completion of your work.

Don't be afraid to let your children sit in your lap while you
are working. It helps them to feel wanted and it helps them to
be a part of your daily life. There are times when it is okay
for them to be sitting in your lap while you work, and at other
times you need them out of your lap. Don't be afraid to tell
them to get down and go play or read a book so that you can
resume your work.

Permit your children to have their toys in your office. Often
they will sit contently and play while you work. Just knowing
you are near is enough to keep them happy.

Be prepared to take an hourly break to deal with your toddler.
Try to do potty breaks at your hourly break and to do drink
refills. This can help your child grow into a routine that will
work well with your home business. At each break, spend a few
minutes with your child giving hugs and kisses and talking with
your child about what he or she wants to talk about.

Toddlers don't always do well with the routine, so be prepared
to take a few minutes when needed to give the attention that
your child so desperately needs in the moment.

IN CONCLUSION

I hope these tips serve to help you in the challenge of
operating a successful home business.

My home business permits me to fulfill my financial obligations
*AND* see my children grow up. I would never contemplate trading
my home business for another kind of business. Even with the
added challenges of dealing with toddlers in my home office, the
upsides far outweigh the downsides.

Growing my own home business with children around has definitely
given me a new respect for all people who successfully run a
home business with kids in the work environment. I tip my hat to
you... You deserve it!
