Motivational Thought For The Week

by André Vatke

"With money in your pocket, you are wise and you are handsome and you sing well too." - Yiddish Proverb

We often think that money will solve all our problems or that those with money don't have any problems. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Money itself does not solve problems, it's the wise use of money that does. There is more than one home in my neighborhood being "dumped" by an owner who is just looking to get out from a mortgage they can no longer afford to pay. The interesting thing is that these homes are being sold for over $700,000! (That's a rock bottom price for anyone who wants to live just a few houses down from me!)

The point is that it's not how much money you have that will makes a difference but how wisely you budget. Everyone can start spending their money wisely starting right now, no matter how much or little you have. Then work from there to increase your wealth.

How can I figure out if MLM is right for me?

Have you started in a network marketing company or multi-level marketing (MLM) company and are having this strange feeling that you might not be successful in it even though you am willing to do what it takes? You read books and try to get all the training you can. you have set your goals but this feeling in back of your head is bothering you that it might not work for you?

Would you like some help?

What you are feeling is not unusual. It’s something most people feel when they truly get honest about their business. What you are feeling is really just a lack of confidence. If comes from your lack of experience and it’s a very common problem. Without confidence you will find that getting into action will be almost impossible.

So how do you build confidence?

Confidence comes primarily from experience. There are two ways to get experience. One is by simply getting out there and doing the job. However, the odds are that you will only end up with more frustration because before you can do, you must know HOW to do! That’s where the second way to get experience comes in: training. Proper training can help you feel more confident because you have acquired the knowledge and to an extent the skill you need to get started in a safe environment.

Training can make you more confident but only taking action will get the job done in the end. When you combine proven training with your own personal action you get a winning knockout combination that will move your business forward in a consistent manner. There is no magic to it and most people won’t do it because it’s not particularly glamorous but it’s the only thing that actually works!

Don’t expect overnight success though because in life, no one is an instant success. Have patience with yourself and the learning process within this business. Over time, the feeling you are having will disappear and be replaced with a sense of strong self-confidence in all you do.

TIP - Tap into the training at Leaders Club and begin building your sustainable motivation by listening to our audios titled, “Overcoming Doubt And Self-Sabotage” and “How To Improve Your Telephone Presence and Confidence.”

"The most successful salespeople are the ones who make things happen where they are, not the ones who jump ship to new companies every year, hoping to find happiness somewhere else." - Ralph Roberts

I have seen this happen time and time again. People who are in a business and are frustrated because their business is not growing. So what do they do? They start searching for a new business in a hope they can succeed more.

Once they find a new business they close up shop on the first and start a fresh new game plan with their new business. Most of the time they find themselves frustrated in a few months because they are not succeeding.
Have you ever jumped from company to company in a hope that you will finally succeed? Have you had downline who jumped ship for the very same reasons? Chances are you have.

It's a fact of human nature. When things get tough or just don't go our way we jump ship and go to a new company. Our hope is the grass will be greener on the other side. I have witnessed this with many people only to see them get further behind in their debt and find themselves still struggling toward success.

Unfortunately, jumping ship and starting a new business is rarely the answer. The key is to stay in the business you are in and build with what you have. There is no magical formula that will create the success you are searching for. There is no one best company or compensation plan.

In fact, every company has its strengths and weaknesses. The bottom line is you MUST develop your skills. Focus in on longevity with the same company. Overtime, your prospects will recognize you have longevity with your company which can create a competitive advantage for you.

Realize, if you jump ship all you are doing is starting over. This means you must buy new marketing materials. You must gain new knowledge of products, services, procedures, and new systems. You will even lose any momentum you had with your current business. Moving to a new business will cost you money.
Succeeding in network marketing requires action. To take action, you must develop your skills. Keep in mind, the successful do not jump around. The successful make things happen from where they are and with what they have.

NOTE: Success requires a sustainable motivation. A sustainable motivation is like the Energizer battery... "it keeps you going, and going, and going!" Having a sustainable motivation will allow you to overcome the ups and downs of building your own business without getting derailed from moving toward your main objective. Begin developing your sustainable motivation today by reading at least ten minutes a day. Read something uplifting and positive!
Developing a sustainable motivation builds confidence and confidence is important for keeping you on track of building your network marketing business. Confidence is important for keeping you on track of building your network marketing business.

Do Niche Blogs make any money?

Niche marketing is an old and very successful marketing
strategy whereby a company focuses on marketing and
selling to a clearly defined segment of potential
consumers. The company earns by supplying a unique
product or service to this narrowly defined market
which other companies have not met or provided.

Are there potential buyers online?

According to the Central Intelligence Agency's latest
figures, there are over 185.55 million internet users
in the United States alone, of these around 139.52
million active users. The Computer Industry Almanac
which compiles statistics on global internet users,
records a staggering 934 million users for 2004 and
this market continues to grow.

Do these users buy online? Statistics gathered on
internet users, show they do and their numbers are
increasing. For instance, in December 2004, online
sales rose by 53%, from $795 million of the same month
2003, to $1.22 billion 2004, (gathered by CMP Media a
service provider of information and marketing services
to the technology and healthcare industries).

For each unique marketing hook, product and service,
your business blog can tap in, that's how many niche
markets you can serve.

The next question then to answer: Can your blog be the
perfect vehicle for reaching and marketing to your
niche?

You should realize that successful blogs go a step
further in providing excellent content, as well as
regular updates or new content. Most websites provide
these services. Rather it is the ability of these blogs
to provide the author and the readers' a venue for
one-on-one conversations, in an impersonal medium.

By sharing commentaries, thoughts and opinions, the
author positions himself or herself as being an
authority in his or her field of work. If you write
content that is relevant to their needs, they'll
remember and keep returning to your blog.

But that's not all; you need to have an abiding passion
for the subject matter or product you'll sell. Without
this, your blog won't stand out and carve itself a
niche apart from the other blogs.

In essence, a well researched and crafted business blog
is a potential revenue center. It has the authors'
personal touch and speaks to the need of this
particular consumer. As every marketing analyst knows,
when a seller understands his or her consumers well,
this seller gets their business.

GENERAL TIPS FOR SUCCESS IN NETWORK MARKETING

• A correct start must include written goals and plans.

• Don't wait for everything to be exactly right to start...THERE WILL NEVER BE A "PERFECT" TIME! Start now, with whatever you have. The things you need will come to you as you work toward your goal.

• Treat your business as a serious, full-time business, and it will become one.

• Though network marketing is one of the few businesses where you can earn while you learn, think of your first six months primarily as a training period. Don't expect large earnings until after you've educated yourself.

• Be patient. You'll work the hardest your first six months or so and get compensated the least. Big incomes never happen overnight. They only come after you've properly shown your affiliates how to duplicate your efforts.

• Formulate a plan of weekly activity and be persistent in following it—if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Sticking to your plan is essential for success.

• Always be ENTHUSIASTIC!!

• Don't give your affiliates unrealistic expectations.

• FOCUS! You cannot become successful in anything when you're trying to do too many things at once.

• Don't quit. The only way to fail is if you give up.

• Think BIG! Small desire produces small results, just as small fires produce little heat.

• Don't complain to your upline leaders. Realize that what you accomplish is mainly in your hands, no one else's. Also realize that, when you see a problem, 95% of the time there are factors you are unaware of. Don't jump to conclusions. When you have a problem, present it in a concise letter as positive, constructive criticism. Offer solutions if possible, too. Not only will this approach get you better results, but you'll be building your relationship with your upline instead of tearing it down.

• Be organized, but don't allow the act of organizing keep you from the most important element of a successful SFI business: MARKETING. Market and promote your business EVERY DAY!

• Don't let little problems upset you. Concentrate on the many positives...and the "big picture."

• Always remember that the only thing that will never change is that there will always be changes. Don't let changes upset you. Know that you will have to deal with changes and other obstacles, both big and small, continually. Be prepared to be flexible.

• Don't be a negative thinker and don't let the negative attitudes of others (even if they're family members, friends, or peers) influence you. All the great men and women in history had to overcome the naysayers who said it couldn't be done—and then went out and did it. Think for yourself!

• Don't be derailed by "perfection paralysis." Realize that you won't be able to do everything perfectly. Do the best job you can, then move on to the next project. Keep learning and keep moving ahead.

• Read books (such as Napoleon Hill's classic, "Think And Grow Rich") that will convince you how powerful your mind really is. Develop the tremendous potential in you (that we all have) that has never been tapped!

• Remember always..."IF IT'S TO BE, IT'S UP TO ME."

What I Have Learned So Far About Earning A Living Online…

Copyright © 2006, Terry Sparing

In my short time on the Internet, I have learned a few key
lessons that might help you also in your quest to find the
success you seek through your Internet connection.

1. Success Can Be Found In The Company You Keep...

Finding and surrounding yourself with good people, who share
common goals and a willingness to help one another, is important.
We are all learning how to be successful, each and every day. And
by working together, we can accelerate our knowledge to the
benefit of all.

2. Selling Other People's Products Is The Easiest Way To Get
Started...

When people first come online, they know that they want to make
money online, but they don't have the first idea of how they
intend to accomplish their goal.

For those who are looking to get on the fast track of making
money online, Affiliate Marketing and Network Marketing was
developed to help them to reach their goals more quickly.

Affiliate Marketing requires for you to register with an
Affiliate website to sell their products through your website or
newsletter. The Affiliate website will give you a special
Tracking URL to use in your advertising, and every time one of
your reader's visit your Affiliate Tracking URL and buy a product
or service, you will earn a commission.

Network Marketing or Multi-Level Marketing is a step up from
Affiliate Marketing. Through Network Marketing, you can take the
same approach as with Affiliate Marketing, except that you can
develop a network of like-minded individuals who are interested
in selling the same product or service as you, allowing you to
make a tiered-commission from their sales in addition to any
commissions that you can earn from your own sales.

Multiplication is the most important benefit of Network
Marketing. It allows you to multiply your earning capability with
the specific company, by multiplying the number of people who
will contribute sales to your bottom line.

3. Multiple Streams of Income The Foundation for Our Long-Term
Success...

We should "never put all of our eggs in one basket." We should
never put all of our energy into one company, product or service.

Not all products and services are created equal. Not all
compensation plans are created equal. Additionally, some
companies offer products and services that have seasonal selling
cycles.

Multiple Streams of Income allow us to find a more even balance
in our income levels, year-around.

4. It Takes Money To Make Money...

It does not take a LOT of money, but it does take money. If you
are afraid to spend money on your own business, why should people
trust you enough to give you their money?

When you sign up as an Affiliate for a company or as a Network
Marketing Associate, the company you are dealing with will always
give you a special Tracking URL to refer your potential clients.

The reality is that you don't want to directly market your
Tracking URL.

Some advertisers will not allow advertising to appear if it
contains an Affiliate Tracking URL. If you use articles as I have
done to promote your business, most article directory managers
expressly forbid the use of Affiliate Tracking URL's inside the
body of the article and in the About the Author information that
follows the article.

When you advertise, you ALWAYS want to promote yourself and not
someone else. Suppose for example that two years from now you
decide that you don't want to promote a specific Affiliate
Program anymore. If you have spent all of your energy promoting
your Affiliate URL, then you will have nothing left to show for
your time and efforts. On the other hand, if you have been
promoting your own domain for the same length of time, changing
affiliate programs mid-stream will not affect your bottom line.
All of your link building will stay with you once you have made
your decision to move on to another program.

For ten or twenty dollars a year, you can register your own
domain name. For an extra five to ten dollars a month, you can
get your own web hosting account for your domain. This $70 to
$130 a year is really the only money that you HAVE to spend. All
other expenses are optional.

At the end of the day, you should only be advertising your own
domain, which can in turn redirect traffic to the Affiliate
Programs, Network Marketing Programs, products or services that
you want to recommend to others.

5. Sometimes It Makes A Lot Of Sense To Hire Out Third-Party
Service Providers...

Let's face it. All enterprise is a trade of "money for time" or
"money for products".

Some people can do a job on your behalf for a specific rate, and
that person can deliver superior results in much less time than
it would take for you to do it yourself. Pay the expert to do his
or her thing on your behalf, so that you can stay focused on the
tasks that you can do economically.

In the end, I know your finances might be tight, but some people
will be able to do things for you that you either cannot do on
your own, or you cannot do in a reasonable amount of time.

Be willing to try a new task on your own, but if you find that
you are not getting the results that you want, figure out how
much time it will take you to do it on your own, and don't be
afraid to multiply that number of hours by a minimum of $10 an
hour to figure out what an equitable trade of money for time
would be in your case.

6. Don't Forget To Tell Your Reader's What You Want Them To Do...

Many new webmasters forget to tell their visitors what they would
like for them to do. There is a reason why you have taken steps
to bring people to your website. Don't be afraid to tell your
readers what they should do and why they should do it.

It really is not enough to say, "Great new program, Click Here."
You must tell your reader how they will BENEFIT from your
recommendation. People make "buying decisions" based on what the
product or service will do for them. You need to help your reader
to make the decisions that you would like for them to make.

7. Promote Yourself Always...

Set up your own domain and promote all of your programs through
your domain. Once again, "don't put all of your eggs in one
basket." Promote your domain through various methods. In time,
you will learn that some methods generate better results than
others, and you can start to trim your promotional activities to
just a few systems, but never ever rest your laurels on one
method of promotion. Always keep your eyes to the horizon to find
other methods that will generate the kinds of results you are
looking for. Don't be afraid to try new things… And don't forget
to measure your costs versus your results.

Your customers have diverse interests and activities. Your goal
is to get into their line of sight, so that you can attract them
to your website. A certain percentage of your visitors will
always buy what you are selling, so the secret to your success
will be to put as many eyeballs on your website as you can,
though whatever methods you can use to get them there.

8. Never Stop Learning...

Having the knowledge to run a successful offline business does
not necessarily translate into having the knowledge to run a
successful online business. There is a lot to learn, and the best
way to keep up and to succeed is to make the effort to learn as
much as you can as often as you can.

You never know exactly where you will find your next gem of
information that will help take you to the next level. The next
article you read might be the one to give you the idea that will
make you a millionaire.

Keep on reading, and never stop learning.

"One of the vital parts of the sales process is understanding your prospect or customer." -- Jim Cathcart

Too often when prospecting and recruiting we get ourselves caught in a flurry of what we want and we fail to even get close to understanding what our prospect wants. We focus on ourselves, our company, and the products and services we offer. We get trapped in a show 'n tell mode.

What is really important to the prospect? Certainly it is NOT what you want, rather it is what the prospect wants! Therefore, we must begin by understanding what our prospect wants. This takes fully understanding our prospect and their situation.

Regardless of whether you are recruiting or selling your products and services, understanding your prospect and their situation will help you close more prospects on doing business with you. Rather than a show and tell push of your products and service, you will position yourself to make certain what you offer is the right fit for your prospect and their needs.

When you focus on understanding what your prospect wants, naturally, you get more people making a decision to do business with you. More decisions of yes in doing business with you means greater growth and profits for your business.
So how do you better understand your prospects? To better understand your prospect, you must begin by doing what most others are not doing. You must first begin by listening to your prospect. Not just hear your prospect but fully listen and understand your prospect and their situation.

To effectively listen, you will NEED to master your listening skills. Learn to master your listening skills by tapping into the Leaders Club members area. You will find some great articles and audio training on how to effectively master the skills of listening.

Your ability to listen will then help you to better qualify your prospects, determine how the prospect makes their decisions, and even how to effectively ask questions that elicit new information to help you help your prospect make the right decision for them.

As your prospect, recruit, sell your products, and even lead your team, make listening your focus. Remember, one of the vital parts of the sales process is understanding your prospect or customer. Listening will help you stay focused so you get the results you want.

How to avoid losing money to affiliate URL thieves

Copyright © 2006, Chris Stirling
www.Top-Home-Business-Directory.com

If you are promoting your affiliate URL on the web then you are in danger of losing sales to affiliate URL thieves. In fact over 40% of your affiliate commissions are in danger of being stolen. And the worst part of this is that is can be avoided with as little as 10 minutes of work and for free! All you need to do is cloak your affiliate URLs. By cloaking your affiliate URLs not only are you protecting your links and commissions you also increase your credibility and potential purchases.

As an affiliate you have probably received an affiliate URL to your program that looks something like this:

http://www.moreinfo247.com/8923829.600/FREE

To the consumer this link does not look very appealing. Also, your affiliate code is right there in the open for someone to remove and place in their own affiliate number - effectively stealing your sales. This is very possible with popular affiliate programs like SFI or ClickBank. But with cloaking you can turn that ugly URL into something more appealing like:

http://www.yourdomain.com/productname

The benefits to this more appealing affiliate URL are

1. Your affiliate id is now cloaked and your commissions are protected

2. This URL looks much more clickable to the consumer thus increasing your click through rates

3. If your customer decided to bookmark this site they bookmark your domain address and not the affiliate company address - increasing your chances of a repeat visit.

4. With your own URL you are able to tack where you are getting visitors easier than with the generic affiliate link.

So how do you create this affiliate cloaking URL?

Here is what you do:

1. Connect to your web server using your FTP client (or other file management program)

2. Create a directory that properly describes the product you are affiliated with. In this example lets say your product is called "The Best ebook Ever" so I would create a directory called "best-ebook-ever".

3. Create a single index.html (or index.htm) file. If you don't have HTML Notebook will work.

4. Edit the index file so that it contains this exact code:

<HTML>

<HEAD>
<TITLE>
Page Title Goes Here </TITLE>
</HEAD>

<FRAMESET>
<FRAME SRC
="Your affiliate URL goes here">
</FRAMESET>

</HTML>

To make your page and the affiliate page look identical I suggest you copy the affiliate page's title - to see this just click on your affiliate link and copy the phrase on the top of your browser's window.

Don't forget to double check your affiliate URL - it MUST be correct!

5. Place the index.html file in your new directory ("best-ebook-ever" in my example).

That's all it takes. Now your affiliate link is cloaked and you gain credibility in your consumers mind by having a much more professional looking link.

Now that you know how to cloak your affiliate URL go spend 10 minutes and protect your commissions before you lose another sale to a affiliate URL thief.

What about start up costs in a home business.

Copyright © 2006, Chris Stirling

So many online businesses advertise “free to join” or “No Obligation” but we all know that no business can survive if nothing is sold. So there have to be costs associated with starting a home business. So when you decide to start an online business the question that you need to ask is can I afford the start up costs?
Before we look at the costs of starting an online business first we need to take a look at the difference between offline, or brick and mortar business and an online business.

Both businesses will require start up costs – no business can start for free. A brick and mortar business will require lease payments, salary payments of employees, insurance, heating and the list goes on and on. Someone starting one of these businesses can easily go deeply into debt to raise the funds to start their business, they will work 12-16 hours per day seven days per week hoping to build a (non residual) income of between $50,000 and $75,000 per year after five to seven years.

In an online business it is possible to create a large six or even seven figure RESIDUAL income after only 2-4 years working 5-15 hours per week, and with start-up costs below $3,000. Because people have so little invested in the startup, many of them treat it as a hobby instead of a business. They don't put comparable efforts into their home business as they would a J.O.B., and expect the outcome to produce greater results anyway. (Usually because of the hype they believed from the person who enrolled them)

Look for an online business that does not require a huge investment to get started, but realize that a REAL business DOES have overhead and start-up costs associated with it. Beware of opportunities that claim there are not expenses involved in starting and growing your business. "Join for free!" One of the great advantages about network marketing is that the start up costs range only between $500 and $2,500. This is much less than most other businesses with start up costs of $10,000 and much more.

I have very little empathy for people when they tell me they just don't have the money to get started. It is a matter of priorities. What I hear when they tell me that is that they just don't want it bad enough to make the necessary sacrifices to do whatever it takes to make a change in their lives. Having been in a situation where I had little money and fear of losing my only source of income, I can share some advice with you. When you get tired of never getting ahead of your bills and want to put that problem behind you, you need to do something to change that. Ask yourself three simple questions.

1 - Where do I want to be in 2-5 years?
2 - What is my plan to reach my goals
3 - What have I done today to change my life to be able to reach my goals.

When I was introduced to this industry the company I was working for was going through its 4th downsizing in 3 years, I was on the chopping block, my wife was very sick and not able to work or earn any money, and we had a huge dept over our heads. I was spending more time at work trying to prove my usefulness to the company and to stay ahead of the bills instead of helping my wife get better. We were very close to losing everything, our home, our life savings, my job. Without a source of extra income, I made a decision that I did not like being in this situation and realized my situation would not change unless I made it change.

I saw this industry as a way to solve my financial problems, instead of using my financial situation as an excuse as to why I could not make a change. I found $20 a day in my spending that I could sacrifice to get started. It cost $600 to start my first home business, and without any source of income, I did not have $600. But I was not going to let $600 stand between me and financial independence. I found a way to come up with that $600, just like people find the money to have their car repaired when it breaks down, or purchase a new refrigerator when it stops working, or have the furnace repaired when it fails. It is all a matter of priorities. Not wanting yourself or your family to freeze to death is a pretty good incentive for most people to find the money to have their furnace repaired when it breaks down in the middle of the coldest part of winter.

After finding the $600 and starting my home business, I put all my extra time into learning what was required to succeed. Failure was not an option. I learned that the way to be financially independent was to help many other people solve their financial problems and become financially independent. I have helped many other people be able to quit their job and come home to raise their kids, pay off their bills, get out of debt, buy a new home or automobile, support their church or charity, have more time with the family. I enjoy nothing more than to help people with financial problems to turn their lives around and put those debt problems behind them.

As the quote says, "You must stop chopping wood long enough to sharpen the axe." When you decide to stop and develop a plan to resolve you financial problems you will see that the excuse of not having the money is to start an online business is just that, an excuse and not a reason. If you are serious about putting your financial problems behind you, and you are coachable, you can become successful in any online business of your choice. You will be able to resolve your financial problems and you will never again have to say, "Right now I don't even have the money to pay attention". That will depend if you really want to be rid of you financial problems, or if you just like having something to complain about.

"It is one thing to eliminate ways in which you have blocked yourself, but another to develop the skills to complete things you begin." - Kenneth Christian

In the world of network marketing we are often faced with the challenge of doing the things others are unwilling to do. In fact, if you desire to become a great leader of leaders in network marketing you must do the things others are unwilling to do.

Many of these things from prospecting to recruiting to leading a team to duplicate your efforts can be a challenge in and of itself. Most people fail miserably at these tasks. They fail not because they can't complete the task but they fail because they have underdeveloped skills needed to complete the task.

Too often these same people will continue to search for the magical tool or secret formula to help them dramatically take a failing effort to multi-millions in an overnight adventure. Only they find that there really is no magical tool or secret formula. But they continue to search.

It takes 12 years of school plus 4 years of college to get educated to start a $30k to $50k a year job in the traditional workplace. Yet, in network marketing, people will join a business and expect to be earning $10k a month within the first few months. If they don't earn it, they are off to the next best business opportunity.

Why does this happen? In network marketing, the cost of entry is minimal and most people have a misguided belief that it also requires a low skill level. No wonder 95%+ of those who enter into the network marketing industry fail so miserably.

If you truly want to succeed in your network marketing business, you must treat it not only as a business but as one would in any profession. This means you start with getting your education. This education begins at Leaders Club. Tap into the training. get coaching. Most importantly, make a commitment to yourself and the industry to invest in mastering the skills necessary in becoming the success you have always dreamed about becoming.

TIP - Do NOT just eliminate the things standing in your way. You MUST also develop and master the skills necessary to face the challenges and complete the task at hand.

How to set up and a successful email marketing campaign

Copyright © 2006, Chris Stirling

Email marketing is a process of generating business through maintaining a list of email contacts – people who “sign-up” to your list for one reason or the other (usually to gain access to information or some other resource).

So what is the biggest mistake people make in their email marketing campaigns?

The biggest mistake is people assume that email marketing should be left to experts, and don't bother learning anything about it!

There are tons of websites out there with perfectly profitable business plans who are missing out on pure gold by ignoring their email marketing campaigns.

A properly run campaign involves at least the following:

1. Building a positive, responsive relationship with your list.
2. Providing your list with a reason to trust you and your advice (give quality information first, ask for their money later).
3. Promoting targeted , useful products to your list (related (directly or indirectly) to the “reason” they signed up for your list.

You'll see from that list of points that simply mailing promotional offers to a bunch of email addresses does not qualify as email marketing. That would be called spam.

Don't be like most people on the Internet. If you're operating in a niche online, you're almost guaranteed to be sitting on a small gold mine. Profit from it by all means possible, and make the effort to set up your own email marketing campaign.

To setup your email marketing campaign, you need the following:

1. A reliable autoresponder.
2. A lead capture form / landing page.
3. Means to bring traffic to that landing page.
4. A set of pre-written messages for your list.
5. An email marketing plan.

Lets take a look at each of these points

The Autoresponder

An autoresponder is the most powerful tool in your email marketing arsenal. Essentially, it not only automates list management (including subscription and unsubscribe requests), but it can also automate the process of sending emails to your list. You can load a set of emails / messages to your list in your autoresponder, and the script will automatically send the emails out at the dates you specify.

Two of the top autoresponders are AWeber and GetResponse. Both are reasonably priced and have excellent features. I personally use GetResponse. If you want to test autoresponders and see how they work I would suggest that you sign up for the free version of GetResponse and experiment there first.

Setting up an autoresponder is fairly simple. Both AWeber and GetResponse have a straightforward sign up procedure, and once you're in, they provide detailed tutorials to help you set up your list management process. You can find GetResponse's tutorial here:

http://www.getresponse.com/ModStatic/JumpStart

Pre-written messages

List management is really simple with autoresponders. You can preload your account with template responses for any of the following occasions:

- When someone signs up through a lead capture form.
- When someone confirms their subscription to your list.
- When someone unsubscribes from your list.
- When someone sends an email to your autoresponder email address (you can configure this message to tell the sender that you will respond within a certain time, or redirect them to a different email address).

In addition, you can write up several emails in advance (in case you want to send messages to your subscribers at specific dates in the future) and load them in your autoresponder. Then, just specify the dates you want each message to be sent on, and your work is done . The autoresponder takes care of everything else.

Pre-loading messages into your autoresponder is a great way to schedule an informational email course, or if you want to send several promotional emails for the same product.

Most autoresponders (including AWeber and GetResponse) offer templates for generic messages (such as the list above), making your job a lot simpler. All you really need is to customize these templates if necessary, and then upload your own messages.

Building Your List

Once you've set up your autoresponder, it's time to build your list. For this, you need to do two things:

1. Set up a landing page through which people can sign up on your list Both Adweber and GetRersponse will provide you with the HLTM code to do this.
2. Drive traffic (hint: targeted traffic – people who are likely to be interested in hearing what you have to say i.e. people interested in your niche) to that landing page.

Let's look at these individually.

Landing Page
A lot of people simply use a “sign up for our newsletter” type of box on their main pages and expect people to come barging in. That's not how it works. For people to sign up for your list, they have to be interested in what you have to say. This means that first you have to educate your potential subscribers to what they have to gain by handing over their email addresses to you.

Set up a separate page on your website – a “ landing page ”. On this page, you would include a description of your newsletter as well as the key benefits to your subscribers for signing up to the newsletter (a free report on plus weekly updates, or regular golf tips, or whatever your niche is). The key here is to convince the reader that if they are interested in your field, it's in their benefit to sign for your newsletter because it is THE place to get the best information about that field.

And of course, provide a simple form for the visitors to fill in and sign up to your newsletter.

Drive Traffic

By now, you're all set to build your list and crank out the sales pitches through your autoresponder. But first, you need to drive traffic to your landing page so that they can sign up to your list. Here's a quick discussion of a few tactics you can use:

Make sure that you focus on the top content-rich sites in your niche when you are submitting these articles.

If you expect to profit significantly from your subscribers you can afford to spend some money on building your list. Use Google AdWords or Yahoo Search Marketing to drive targeted traffic to your landing page. The key here is to bid on very specific two-word and three-word phrases, so that not only your traffic is targeted, but that you can get these clicks for cheap. Make sure that you're not paying too high a price for each click (1 visitor), otherwise the process might backfire on you.

Write and submit articles in a niche article directory . Make sure you include your resource box at the end of the article, with some text describing your email course and a link going back to your landing page. This is fairly elementary, but its still surprising how few people end up taking advantage of this technique.

Simple as it sounds, make sure to promote your newsletter on your website . Don't just settle for a link on every page – include some text and actually explain in a few words what the newsletter offers (kind of like a PPC ad).

Offer a freebie – this could either be a free tool or access to a section of your website (where you keep the good content) or even a downloadable report. This is by far the most common hook marketers use to build their list.

If you have a sales pitch on your website, make sure that your “free” newsletter features prominently in it. It will provide readers with a risk-free alternative to test you and find out if you can really deliver on any claims you make in the sales pitch. In addition, many people don't buy immediately – they tend to evaluate the pros and cons and deliberate over buying decisions (especially costly buying decisions) quite a lot. By offering them an option to sign up to your newsletter, you secure an inside track to the “buy or not” debate in their minds and are in a position to win their trust and earn their money.

Make sure that you test it first and run your autoresponder through its paces to understand how everything works before jumping into the deep end and driving traffic to your landing page. Email marketing can be a very effective way to promote your business. If you follow this quick overview on how to setup your own email marketing campaign you will see success.

Why Small Businesses Fail

Copyright © 2006, Chris Stirling

Success in business is never automatic. It isn't strictly based
on luck - although a little never hurts. It depends primarily on
the owner's foresight and organization. Even then, of course,
there are no guarantees.

Starting a small business is always risky, and the chance of
success is slim. According to the U.S. Small Business
Administration, over 50% of small businesses fail in the first
year and 90% fail within the first five years.

In his book Small Business Management, Michael Ames gives the
following reasons for small business failure:

1:Lack of experience
2:Insufficient capital (money)
3:Poor location
4:Poor inventory management
5:Over-investment in fixed assets
6:Poor credit arrangements
7:Personal use of business funds
8:Unexpected growth
Gustav Berle adds two more reasons in The Do It Yourself
Business Book:
9:Competition
10:Low sales

More Reasons Why Small Businesses Fail

These figures aren't meant to scare you, but to prepare you for
the rocky path ahead. Underestimating the difficulty of starting
a business is one of the biggest obstacles entrepreneurs face.
However, success can be yours if you are patient, willing to
work hard, and take all the necessary steps.

On the Upside

It's true that there are many reasons not to start your own
business. But for the right person, the advantages of business
ownership far outweigh the risks.

You will be your own boss.
Hard work and long hours directly benefit you, rather than
increasing profits for someone else.
Earning and growth potential are far greater.
A new venture is as exciting as it is risky.
Running a business provides endless challenge and opportunities
for learning.

These positive elements add together to give the entrepreneur
the best possible chance at business success. It will be many
years, perhaps decades, before we again see such a positive
environment for home business launches on the internet.

Winston Churchill said only 15 words in his commencement speech
to graduates of one of the most prestigious Universities in the
world...OXFORD University:

"CHOOSE YOUR GOALS CAREFULLY AND THEN... NEVER...NEVER...NEVER
GIVE UP UNTIL YOU REACH THEM!"

Follow that philosophy and you can't help but achieve
success...

Starting Your Own Successful Business

Copyright © 2006, Chris Stirling

This article will attempt to answer the question everyone interested
in online marketing or a home based business always asks -"How easy
is it REALLY, to start your own successful online business?"

Believe it or not it's not that difficult to "start a business".
It is however another story altogether to build, maintain and
improve a successful one!

Yes It's true! Most new business do go "out of business" within
1 to 3 years so why would anyone be foolish enough to fight
those kinds of discouraging odds?

I'm glad you asked such a great question!

The answer lies in what YOU believe the word "most" really
means.

When we say "Most businesses go out of business in their first 3
years" We must consider this in the context of sheer numbers on a
global scale. For example, there are billions of people on this
planet and millions of business start-ups every year. When
considered in this way It's quite a bit easier to understand the
"bigger picture".

Remember that there are huge differences in "most of a few" and
"most of a lot", so when discussing the issue of business
failures one can easily forget the other side of the equation
Business successes!

When you're talking about millions of start-up businesses per
year, you should do yourself a favor and consider the positive
side as well as the downside.

It is a fact that in all those business start-ups per year, many
do become successful and with the advent of the Internet this
number continues to increase towards the good on a literally
exponential scale.

It's not a difficult task to find these examples easily just by
surfing the net!

All of these businesses were started by "regular" people just
like you. People who shared one distinct quality, above all
others... The ability to realize a vision and turn that vision
into reality.

Is that all it takes, you might ask? No It isn't.

A vision and even a yearning to create something useful to
others is not enough so, if there's more to it than that then what is
the secret?

Again I'm so glad you asked!

You need a number of things to create REAL and LASTING success
in anything productive you wish to accomplish Any EXPERT "worth
their salt" will most assuredly agree.

Among these needed qualities are:

* Intestinal Fortitude (GUTS)

* Commitment

* Willingness to learn and grow constantly and consistently

* Sticktoitiveness (BE TENACIOUS)

* Integrity (BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF AND OTHERS)

* Ability to encourage and accept constructive criticism

* Refuse to give up on your dreams

You may say to yourself that this all sounds good and true But
you've heard it all before and

Just ask yourself one question before you go any further; Do you
practice these qualities on an ongoing basis yourself?

Then go one step further. Are you willing to practice these
qualities in the future?

If you look at any "failed business" and apply these qualities
you can learn a great deal about WHY "most businesses fail" in
their first 3 years. You can be assured that 99% percent of
these "lost dreams" did NOT make it a point to practice one or
more of these qualities on an ongoing basis.

The moral of this story is quite simple really

Get truthfully serious about "planning your work" and then
without fail at every opportunity go for it...

Knowledge of the business, sufficient capital, good experience,
and a unique idea at the right time are just some of the
characteristics of a successful business owner. Although there
isn't any way that you can guarantee that you'll become a
successful owner, you can greatly improve your odds by becoming
well-prepared for the task.

5 Phases of Email Marketing

by Chris Stirling

When using email marketing to sell a product or service you can’t
just start selling to your readers in the first email. The reason is the
odds of the reader knowing who you are or what you are all about are
pretty low, even if they subscribed to your newsletter from a form on
your website. People do not purchase from those they do not know.
So the key to a successful email marketing campaign is “warming up”
your readers to the sell.

The "warming up" process can be broken down into five
distinct phases. It's a good idea to keep these in mind
as you work to warm up your lists.

Phase 1 -- "Cold Readers"

These are folks who have just filled out the form on your
website, or whose details you have received via co-registration.

You know nothing about them, and they know nothing about you,
so at this phase, your primary job is to introduce yourself,
and begin to establish yourself as a source of credible and
useful *free* information.

I emphasized the word *free* in that, because "cold" leads are
very unlikely to buy anything from you, no matter what you do.

PHASE 2 -- "Curious Readers"

At this phase, people may have opened one or two of your emails
and have at least decided to stay on your list long enough to
find out what you're about, and what they can gain by reading
your emails.

Another way of thinking of this group is that they are the
ones who are actually opening and reading your emails, whether
they open the first or the tenth that you send them.

Your job with this group remains essentially the same as was
true at Phase 1 ... you are still in the process of "warming
them up" to the idea that you are credible and trustworthy.

Again, not a time to be trying to sell them things, because
few of them will buy, anyway.

PHASE 3 -- "Interested Readers"

These are the folks who have opened and read several of your
emails, and now continue to read them. Perhaps they have
"moved" themselves from your "cold" list by opting-in to one
or your newsletters or free mini-courses.

By doing so, they have "told" you that they are interested in
what you have to say, willing to read more of your emails, and
may, in due time, buy something on the basis of your suggestion.

One way to know who your "interested" prospects are is to offer
a free ebook or mini-course, and make them "register" for it
by opting in to a second autoresponder.

Another is to run a survey form on your site, invite them to
participate, and capture their contact information when they
do so.

The point is they have taken some *action* based upon your
previous emails, and have told you by that action that they
are interested in what you have to say, and willing to read
what you write to them.

PHASE 4 -- "Excited Readers"

These are folks who are almost ready to buy. They may have
written you asking for more information, or visited your
sales page several times. Maybe they are thinking about
joining your business opportunity, but for some reason not
quite ready to sign up and pay their money. They need some
sort of "push" or "nudge" to get them to take action.

Maybe they need a "special offer" of some kind, or simply a
personal follow-up email or phone call from you. Whatever
it is, these are your *HOT* prospects.

PHASE 5 -- "Customer"

The final phase is, of course, obvious. These are the folks
who have bought your product, joined your opportunity, or
bought something that you promote as an affiliate.

In the long run, these are the folks who will make you the
most money, because it will become easier and easier for them
to act on your recommendations, as long as you don't betray
their trust by endorsing poor quality products or programs.

You need to think of these folks as *friends*, because that
is what they really are. They have now given you permission
to send them follow-up offers and program endorsements.

Even though they may represent only a tiny percentage of the
entire population of your list, these people are your long
term gold mine group.

Treat them with respect, they have warmed up to you and what
You have to offer. Maintain a high level of integrity
and they will continue to follow you for years to come.

"Concentration is the discipline of focusing on a chosen project and ignoring irrelevant matters." - Sam Horn

A problem many people encounter is a failure to concentrate. As we build our business, we are often challenged with many things which can keep us from concentrating and getting the job done. Whether it is a family illness, children wanting your attention, or even an unsolicated phone call... we can easily find ourselves out of focus.

The word problem, as we talk about the problem of a lack of concentration, does not necessarily need to be negative. It simply means the existing situation is not your ideal situation.

A lack of concentration can misguide us many times. To help us concentrate, we need to have purpose and vison for what we do. We need to have a plan of action and an understanding that challenges happen to everyone.

While some distractions are out of our control, most distratctions that cause a lack of concentration are avoidable. The key is to work from a plan and take consistent action. This will help you develop a habit of focus and concentration. As your habits develop, so will your motivation and confidence.

Developing a sustainable motivation builds confidence and confidence is important for keeping you on track and focused in building your network marketing business.

Don't Forget! - Pay Yourself First!

by Dr. Robert Sullivan

Every small business owner and entrepreneur assumes their venture
will succeed. This is a healthy, and necessary, attitude to mimic
for those of you contemplating starting a new business. But the
fact is most successful entrepreneurs have failed twice previously.
The successful entrepreneur views these failures as learning
experiences and an opportunity to succeed next time. But will
there be a next time for you?

Consider this true story. Like so many entrepreneurs, Richard's
first business started with a single customer. He had a regular
job but had been contacted by a company that wanted to purchase
a few hours of his time to assist in solving a problem for which
he had expertise. Richard took on the work. One "little" job
lead to another and soon Richard was spending a significant
portion of his spare time working as a consultant. The extra
money was great. Eventually it became possible to quit his
job and start his own company. Initially all his work came
from the company that had originally hired him.

Richard's business grew to accommodate increasing demands from
his single customer. This growth was made possible by returning
all profit back into his new company - Richard only kept the
bare minimum needed to meet his current expenses. Unfortunately,
after a couple of very successful years, Richard lost this
major and first customer. The loss was devastating and eventually
the company was forced into bankruptcy. Richard lost his company
and had very little to show for his previous hard work!

I guess we could say Richard was a victim of his own success.
Unfortunately, because of the very traits that can make an
entrepreneur successful, he or she will sometimes forget to plan
for possible failure. One of the biggest and potentially most
damaging errors is failing to pay yourself. Many small business
owners figure that later, when the business is making a profit,
they can take a salary. This can be a grave mistake in the event
of a business failure - you may just end up with nothing for
your efforts and, worse, be left in a position where it is not
possible to try again!

It is difficult to find a book in the small business genre that
even mentions paying yourself, let along give some advice about
it. Could it be that all those authors assume it's not worth
mentioning since a business owner does not need to be told to
pay himself?

As our little story above shows, it does happen frequently. Don't
you do it! Do NOT make the mistake of putting every dollar of
profit back into your business.

You may prosper for a number of years and then be suddenly plunged
into bankruptcy through no fault of your own. If this happens,
and you have not planned for the eventuality, you may find
yourself in a very difficult financial position. Remember that
you deserve to be appropriately paid for your efforts. Pay
yourself first.

Most small businesses are not initially profitable and this
must be taken into account in your planning activities. If
your business will be financed by others, ensure that you
have added an appropriate salary for yourself in the business
plan.

If you are financing the business yourself, the situation is
a little different. You probably have assumed you will take
no salary until the business is profitable. But when profit
is available, it's important to immediately start paying
yourself on a regular basis -- just as if you were an employee.

How much should you pay yourself? There is no easy answer or
magic formula and it is difficult to give specific advice but
some general guidelines are worth noting.

If your business is equity financed, your salary should be formally
determined based on a formula agreed to by the equity lenders.
As an example, in a recent startup for which I assisted, the
equity investment was $200,000. The two owners agreed to a
starting salary of $3000/month until the business became
profitable at which time their salaries increased based on a
percentage of gross profits. The initial salary was based on
the current monthly needs of the two partners and was agreed
to by the equity investors.

If your business is debt financed (by yourself or others), your
business or strategic plan should include your own salary and
its basis. Clearly, if you are using your own money to finance
a new business you probably won't initially take a salary. In
this case you should ensure that your savings and any other
sources of income will support you until you become profitable.
However, as soon as the business starts returning a profit,
start paying yourself a reasonable salary.

Strike a balance between growth considerations and your salary.
This will be different for each business but thoughtful planning
will allow you to determine an effective split.

We all plan for success but in the world of small business,
failure is all too possible, and for reasons beyond your control.
So plan for both success and failure. Don't return every
dollar to the business. Keep some for #1, yourself!

Tip for those in affiliate programs

White List Your Affiliate Manager's Email

Any good affiliate manager will consider their affiliate partners to be their sales team on the Web. And a successful affiliate takes advantage of the tools and support at their disposal.

But all too often, the tools, updates, and mission critical information from affiliate manager to affiliate are not getting through. The culprit here is the over zealous spam filter.

For all of the good that spam filters do, they are not perfect, and they turn up false positives (flagging email you want to receive as spam). Many email clients send the email they flag as spam to a folder, where you can review the email and 'white list' the email from specific senders you wish to hear from in the future. In newer versions of AOL, there is a link that reads 'Spam Controls' below the 'Report Spam' button. Click on 'Spam Controls' and then click on 'Custom Sender List' to add the email addresses of your affiliate managers.

Similarly, the newer versions of Outlook have a folder called 'Junk E-mail.' In order to be sure your important emails are not getting dumped into that folder, go to Actions, then Junk E-mail, then Add Sender to Safe Senders List.

The process varies for various email clients, but the bottom line is that it's in your best interest to 'white list' your affiliate managers, so that you can receive the important emails

Also make sure to put your affiliate program sponsor's email address on your white list. Often you sponsor has many tips and lessons for you to follow to help you succeed. Affiliate programs are set up so that your sponsor will not success unless you do. If you can not receive the emails of your sponsor you may not receive valuable information from a proven success in your program.
